Whale Watching in the Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest is home to distinct populations of orcas, humpbacks, gray, and minke whales—not to mention dolphins, porpoises, seals, sea lions, otters, and so much more! With a little luck and the right approach, you could catch a glimpse of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

How to see marine wildlife

From land

Whale watching from the shore is a peaceful and free way to spot these gentle giants. Elevated viewpoints along the coast give you a chance to see whales spouting or breaching while enjoying panoramic ocean views. Orcas, humpbacks, and gray whales are sometimes seen passing by.

From a kayak

For a more adventurous experience, kayaking offers a closer connection to the ocean, but be sure to follow local regulations and maintain a safe distance from the whales to protect them and yourself.
