Planning a spring or early-summer camping trip in British Columbia for 2026? There’s an important update from BC Parks that will affect when you can reserve campsites, and a little forward planning will go a long way.

Here’s a clear breakdown of what’s changing, plus how to line up your camper rental so you’re ready the moment bookings open.

What’s Changing for 2026 Campsite Reservations?

For the 2026 season, BC Parks is shifting from a four-month to a three-month rolling reservation window.

What that means:

  • You can now book campsites three months in advance, instead of four.

  • As of now, reservations are open up to March 22 for the small number of parks that open that early.

  • Most BC Parks campgrounds open in April or May, and their dates will appear progressively on a rolling basis.

Key Booking Dates to Mark in Your Calendar

To make things easier, here are two clear examples:

  • Easter Long Weekend (April 2 arrival)👉 Book starting January 2

  • May Long Weekend (May 15 arrival)👉 Book starting February 15

If you’re aiming for spring weekends or long weekends, setting calendar reminders is more important than ever, those dates tend to book fast.

What’s Coming Next?

BC Parks will share additional information about:

  • Park openings and updates

  • Seasonal advisories

  • Visitor information for 2026

Keep an eye on bcparks.ca and their social channels for the latest updates as the new year approaches.

How This Impacts Your Camper Road Trip Planning

If you’re planning a camper adventure around BC Parks campgrounds, the biggest takeaway is this: Your camper and your campsite planning should now happen together.

Because campsite bookings open closer to the travel date, it’s smart to:

  • Know which parks you’re targeting

  • Be flexible with routes and backup campgrounds

  • Have your camper rental ready before reservation day

That way, when your preferred campsite opens up, you can book confidently, without scrambling for a vehicle last minute.
